We will be moving to HK end Jan and will be looking for a flat to rent.
I've heared that we can get a discount on asking price. How much discount we can get?
Is there any way to find a place without involving any real estate agent or is better to get a professional (agent's) help? If so how much is the commision for a real estate agent? Is the commission negotiable?
Thanks

I would say involving an agent is better, especially if you are new here. They can show you lots of stuff that you wouldn't find otherwise. The commission to the agent is half a month's rent. The renter also pays half a month's. Typically this is not negotiable.
Discount. That very much depends on the market and on which flat you are looking at. Currently I would think it is difficult. Also, many landlords don't like to discount. They'd rather keep the asking price and throw in a few months rent free.
Finally, I would strongly recommend you stay in a serviced flat for a few weeks and look around before jumping into a rental. That way you can get a feel for the areas you want to move.
