how to view avi files on TV?

The two simplest solutions are:

- Copy the files to a DVD and play in your DVD player. The player needs to support the format. Many but by no means all DVD players do. I don't know what codec your avi files are compressed in, but if the DVD player supports "DivX" you should be good.

- Buy a little media player unit. This is a box that displays movies and pictures on your TV. It has a remote, a menu and plays avi files stored on it. Some manufacturers have released what are basically external hard drives with this functionality built in. If you go to the Wan Chai Computer Center, Golden Arcade or 298 ComputerZone you'll find these units easily.

Other solutions:

- Assuming your TV has a "PC" input, you can use a laptop or other computer to play the files.

- If you have an XBox, you can use it to display movies that are stored on your network.

- You can have a dedicated Media Center machine (AKA Home Theater PC) that plays files either stored on your network or locally.

axptguy38 is right, your best solution is to get media player capable storage device. Many of the main hard disk manufacturers make them nowadays. That will simply plug straight into your PC from a video out on the device.

You can also get a video out cable for your iphone to play videos on a tv. The usb connection to a TV won't work.

I have a years old Pioneer DVD recorder that pretty much plays every format and I used to use that to play all my avi files. I'd just copy them onto a dvd (or even cd) and then plug them in and watch.

Now though I just use Vuze and my 360. Once I get them into Vuze I can them get them to play on my 360 and its a lot simpler. Of course I wouldn't recommend getting one just for that though haha
