The Kindle is purely an Amazon device and only sold by Amazon. Of course someone may be selling it indirectly but I wouldn't buy one from this someone.

Kindle service currently exists in the US and Europe only. It contains a built in cellular and comes with a subscription so that it can receive data from Amazon. Again, only in the US and Europe. If memory serves there is an "offline" input method.

I wouldn't say no use. Even if you can't download directly from Amazon, the Kindle supports various formats if you sync from a computer. Having said that, the main feature of the Kindle is not available outside the markets served.

On the Amazon site, it says (selecting HK): 'Over 340,000 English-language books to choose from; plus U.S. and international newspapers and magazines are available for your country.' Doesn't that mean that you are able to download from Amazon? I'm also interested in the Kindle.

I am in Hong Kong and the kindle service now works in Asia. However, you will find that some books are not available for the Asian market, this could be down to publishing rights.

It only takes a couple of seconds for my purchase to stream onto my kindle and have had absolutely no problems at all.

I bought my kindle from Amazon US and it's been best purchase for me this year by far!

just went to the site. now I'm struggling Kindle or Kindle DX. DX seems too big as I won't leave home without a book (Kindle in future) in my handbag. on the other hand, not sure if Kindle 6" screen is enough.........price is half of DX........
