Baby refuses bottle

My baby is 5 months old. She has been exclusively breastfed. I tried offering her breastmilk in a bottle at an early stage and she happily took it without fuss. A few weeks ago however, she decided that she wants no more bottle. She just won't suck. She could go for a stretch of as long as 7 hours without a feed, and she was obviously hungry, and angry. But she just won't take it from a bottle. It was until I finally gave in and nurse her then she stopped crying. What should I do to get her drink from a bottle again? I've tried several different bottle brands but it doesn't seem to help. Any advice pls?

have you tried getting someone else to try to bottlefeed her? maybe it's just seeing you and the association with the breast.

It's always my helper who feeds her and I'm out of sight most of the time. It doesn't help at all... she just doesn't take it, not even those milk that flows into her mouth from the teat. Strange.

It would seem that your baby is having a nursing strike but in reverse order !

If you need to leave your baby for long periods because you have returned to work then it would be worth while introducing solids . Vegetables or rice

cereal mixed with expressed breast milk would help fill her tummy and keep her hydrated until you return and can breast feed her . Also instead of persevering with a bottle try a cup so she can sip at breast milk . Your

baby may have just decided she doesn't like the feel of artificial teats in her mouth .

You would be very welcome to bring your baby in to clinic where we could discuss this further .

Mine did the same thing - she was never that keen on the bottle but would take the night feed from my husband of expressed milk and then one day it was no more. I didnt battle it as I was at home and she has been exclusively breast since. She is now 12 months old and wont go onto cows milk ! As my doctor says, she knows what she wants.

Sorry cant offer any advise - we tried having me out of the room, different bottles etc. After a few weeks we just gave up - I was tired of pumping and then tossing the milk. But just know that you are not alone in this one.
