My son was offered a place at Australian IS. I just wanted to ask those who live on the HK side whose kids go to AIS and takes the school bus to school everyday on how their kids like or hate the commute. We would like to stay on the HK side but would like to hear more from those who have kids that does the commute everyday. Thanks!

Hi

We would have liked to have sent our child to AIS also, but chose elsewhere in the end mainly due to the distance and the play date issue. Our friends in Pokfulam found playdates were mainly Kowloon side and with smaller aged children, they worried a lot around rain storm/ typhoons being on one side of the island and children on the other? Just a thought. I think it would be managebale if your children are older school age or if you are midlevels based? I know some people who do it from the Peak and mid levels and say the travel time is around 30minutes, pretty standard.

Get the school to send you the bus pick up time and point. If you have to stand in the rain/sun on the side of a busy road your life may be miserable. If your drop off point is within walking distance of your home next to a coffee shop then the impact is less.

My kids did the school bus until old enough to take public transport. They hated it. They now hate public transport. They also hate me driving them because I select the music played.

The school bus is expensive - but no more than any other school bus. Public transport is never guaranteed due to full buses and we hate waiting in the rain. Driving near the Aussie School in the morning is a horrible pain because of all the princes and princesses being delivered, double parking, parking across pedestrian crossings, parents chatting and blocking the traffic,
