Hi there,
In September I booked a junk boat. I paid the deposit and marked down when to pay the balance. I sent my cheque for the balance on time but on the day before the trip, on Saturday 1pm they called me that my payment had not been received and that the junk would not be available the next day if I would not pay immediately. I transferred the money and it was received within 10 mins.
Unfortunately, my daughter got sick the same night so I had to cancel the trip. I called them and was told that my deposit was gone but that my balance would be refunded within the next days.
That was in November and until now I have not received my money back (HKD 2,850). My phone calls and emails are not returned and I wonder if this is normal practise in Hong Kong?!
Can anyone please help me and tell me what to do?
Thanks.

If they told you that you would be refunded then this would be hard to prove. They said, you said problem.
However to learn from, most boats require at least a 24hr cancellation/no show notice and from your post, you cancelled just the night before (Saturday night), so maybe you have lost it all.
You might like to visit them at whatever dock they use and see if you can talk to them directly. It is worth a go.
