Hi, if I enter Hong Kong with a Canadian passport, can I leave with an French passport for a day to Macau and back? Will immigration allow that?

Thanks a lot!!

If you have the stamp and slip in your Canadian passport you will have to leave on that one. Go into and out of Macau on the French one then come back into HK on the Candian one. It could potentially lead to questions coming back into HK but you are allowed to do this, I was told when I was travelling with Dual passports once.

You can try, but I would recommend always using the same passport in and out. As Chwaer says it could lead to questions if you don't use the same. One country (or territory in this case), one passport.

can't you go to macau with your HK ID only? or is that for PRs only?

To be able to enter Macau with HKID card, you indeed need to be a PR.

I usually leave HK with my HKID, and then use another passport (not attached to my HK visa) when entering and exiting overseas.. I sometimes get questions overseas about not having a HK visa in the passport, but are usually sorted out when I show the ID Card.

You get so many stamps in your passports around Asia that I try to switch passports quite often.

You must leave the country on the same passport that you entered. Of course, after that in Macau, you can use whatever you like!
