My 1st trip to the gyne for a routine check in Hkg & she put me in stirups. Is it the norm here? I've never had to do that back home. Normal my pap smears are done very discreetly with a blanket over my legs. Ok maybe I'm a prude but is there a gyne out there who doesn't use stirups?
On top of that, the one I saw was so clinical and cold. Would be great if anyone could recommend a more empathetic one. & who doesn't use stirups! Cheers

I've seen four gynos in HK... none of them used stirrups!
The one I see right now is Chinese, in Causeway Bay.

The receptionist doesn't really speak any English. Of course, the gyne speaks English. I like him - he's probably more on the conservative side... ie. even though your married, you should always wear a condom for sex.... when in your first trimester, don't have sex... stuff like that.
He explains everything though and I find him patient.
The only negative thing I could say is that there always seems to be a long waiting time. He has about four different rooms - so firstly, you're in the waiting room. Then when it's nearer your turn, he moves you to a different room, then you see him, then you move to the examination room and wait, while he talks to another patient. Then he comes in to examine you. Then you wait again while he goes outside and talks to another patient. Then he talks to you again. Then you're finished.
In other words, he has this system so he can see four different patients at the same time but it means your consultation takes longer!
I first went to him because he's on the BUPA list of free doctors but I was quite impressed so I'm trying him out to deliver my second baby...

I also saw someone in Tsim Sha Tsui whom I quite liked - I don't go to him now cos the location is not convenient...

Dr Wong Peng Hao in TST. Actually, he may also practise elsewhere so you could perhaps call up and ask: 2723 1218.
No long waiting times, friendly, great English. Last time I visited, he was at the HK Pacific Centre in Hankow Road.

Somewhere in various threads, the Family Planning Centre in Wanchai gets lots of recommendations for the basics- pap smears etc.
