I don't drive so did not get a carseat. But now I'm wondering if I'm going to need one to bring baby home from the hospital?

There is no law requiring it. However if you are in an accident, even at very low speeds, the risk of injury increases exponentially without a carseat. Heck, even if the driver has to brake suddenly baby could be injured. Your arms are in no way strong enough to hold baby in even a mild impact.
We used carseats when the kids were small even when we did not have a car. It's a pain but we felt better safe than sorry.
