Advice on inkjet printer

I need to buy a printer for basic B&W document printing. Fortress tends to stock Canon and HP and these are both reputable brands. Any advice on what to choose in terms of reliability and cost of replacement cartridges?

Thanks!

If you are going to do a lot of printing it is worth buying a proper office printer. The toner cartriges are much bigger and it works out much cheaper per copy.

If you buy home printers the little printer cartridges cost a lot of money. And they don't last long.

I only do a little printing, and find it cheaper to use the local copy shop. Otherwise I will need to stump up money up-front for replacement cartridges. And I have a home printer (learnt that lesson).

Never buy the absolutely cheapest one. Also as tigerbay says, get a proper printer if you are going to be printing a lot. Most printers do have recommended monthly number of prints. If you go much above that the breakage rate increases exponentially.

I would also recommend a printer with WiFi or wired networking. The ability to lose the cable and print from anywhere is worth a lot in my opinion.

A laser printer will print a lot nicer and faster than a typical inkjet which is used for pictures. HP makes very good laser printers.
