Most custodians provide services only for institutional or, to a lesser extent, corporate investors. They wouldn't normally take in retail investors' assets. Retail investors don't normally need their own custodians as their brokers or banks through whom they bought the shares would safekeep on their behalf. Or in some countries retail investors can sometimes open their own direct accounts with the local central depository


If you are inquiring for an institution, then you need to figure out if you are looking for a local or domestic custodian (and in which markets), or a global custodian (if the institution has investments in many markets). There are pros and cons to both.
