HK change to notes

My daughters have been collecting $5, $2 and $1 and now have a fair amount and want to either out it in their banks or change it to notes.

I've just called HSBC and said they are not sure whether they can do it over the counter and it depends whether the branch has any notes to give (i don't think she fully understood).

Does anyone know if HSBC has a machine that counts the change and then gives it back in notes or if there is some place i can go that will not handle a handling fee.

Many thanks in advance.

hsbc has a cash center a their headoffice (and only there) for exactly this. the entrance is near the corner facing cheung kong center pedestrian crossing and you go down from there (rather than up into the branch as usual).
