My daughter may need to to go to Baku to take part in a junior fencing competition. I know absolutely nothing about this place. Anybody could help give some information, especially the safety aspect? Thanks a lot.

my friend got married to a girl from there and they just spent a few months there. he is a kiwi btw.

sounded all very cool and people are very warm hearted (like most people in that region). safety sounds ok (better than manila or jakarta as a comparison) but probably worse than hong kong.

i would make sure that the program and accomodation is sorted, and also ensure that a man is going with them (as it's still rather a macho culture). all else i would not worry too much
