Urgent Advice needed - Re:LP

I've got LP of Karaoke songs which are very rare and quite expensive when I bought them years ago and put them away as I promised to give them to a couple whenever they come to HK from Canada as they still have those old machine-player. They came this evening for dinner and I took the LPs out for them and they were so thrilled with this gift which they claimed is very valuable. The husband said I should try to transfer the songs into VCD. Could it be done? Please help with any answers as time is limited. The husband is leaving on Tuesday and if his suggestion works, he will not take them and leave the stuff for his wife who is staying behind until the 3rd March to carry the load.

It never occurred to me that this could be done or else I would definitely have the job done as the songs (all oldies) cannot be found in any of the new Karaoke VCD, especially the sound system.

Please help if someone knows where I can go even to ask for advice or direct me to shops that have these services. Thank you very much.

Seeing as though no one has answered you... I would try some TV or Music production houses as a starting point. If you don't know where to start... how about searching for tv production hosues in Hong Kong and then just ring some of them, and ask them if they know any music producers who offer this kind of transfer service.

It's very kind of you to reply. Thank you for your advice. I'll try that tomorrow. Actually, the husband has offered to do something like this for me in Canada as he said that the technology in his hometown may be more advanced. If not, I would still be happy as this couple are very good friends of mine and they will be able to enjoy what I can't as it was my intention in the first place when I stored up these valuable LPs waiting for them to come to HK to collect. (other not so rare ones, I've given to my helper 3 years ago for her father who is about the same age as my hubby as I was sure he would appreciate the songs from our generation).

Thanks for telling me your experience. The husband took the laserdisks back to Canada already and would try to do something but I told him that unless it's not too much out of his way, not to do anything as I was prepared to part with this stuff in the first place years ago. In Canada, they can keep their machines, new and old as houses are huge (a basement for storage) whereas in HK, space is too limited so we just keep the minimum stuff we used.

I gave away my old record player, the VCR machine & all the video tapes and the LP/LD? machine. Life is simpler this way for us seniors.

I have converted LP's to CD and MP3 using my old record player and plugged it into my PC in the mic socket using a phono to headphone lead then used this software to 'clean' up pops and crackles, the audio cleaning lab if you have a record player or they do a usb deck too, here:

Looked over the 2 sites...they are great and very informative. This couple friend of ours has a very good Japanese friend who is into these sorts of things and will be helping out. Guess forwarding these 2 sites to them can also help.

Thanks!
