Hello,
I'm a single European in her 30's. I'm moving to HK this summer and just wanted to know how social life there might be for us singles. Any others there in the same situation? Any advice on good associations/clubs to join? It was very hard to meet guys in the mainland. -Is it the same in HK?

Hi Zende
Welcome on board! I'm a single local lady in 30's also. You may go to YWCA at McDonald Road, they have a lot of activities club there. I think you can meet some new friends in there.
For me, it is very hard to meet the right guys in HK unless you like to hang out at the bar every night. Wish you can meet the new friends and have fun in HK!

HK is a very sociable place to be and it's easy to meet and make friends. It all depends on you.
You don't have to go out drinking every night. You can take up a course - like photography, rock climbing, join a club - dragon boating, jogging - and meet people like that.
Ask yourself - if you took a ten-week course to learn Cantonese, would you be the kind of person to ask your classmates to meet up socially? If you are, then you would be the kind of person to take the opportunity to broaden your network of friends, and that's how you meet men from all walks of life.
So many people think that going to bars is the only way to meet the opposite sex. But when I think about my life - ok, actually I was the kind of person who loved going out to bars and clubs... but a lot of my friends came through sailing (as a sport, doing regattas every weekend), and outrigging (which is similar to dragon boating), getting involved in charity work. And the guys you meet there are really fit and sporty and healthy.

Meeting men is not too bad in HK but the dating circle can be quite small (despite the 7 million population!!) I like joining some gyms that have a great community,..i used to go to pure gym but ppl there were mainly just get in and get out....now im going to Planet Yoga and its quite good! I also volunteer at my local community centre to teach english at Saturdays.. :)
