i had taken cash from 2 differnt credit card on 2007. i was unable to pay back this loan one was hkd40,000 and from other bank hkd12,000.
i did contact one bank and willing to pay back hkd12,000 without any interest. the bank staff vorbally agree to accept but they are not willing to give me any written confirmation. what should i do.?

now i am applying for dependent visa for my wife, can immigration department check with banks for these default payments.

1. You borrowed the money, you used it (enjoyed the proceeds), then you got to pay it including interest if necessary.
2. I'm not sure whether the immigration checks liabilities. However, to apply for a dependent's visa, you need to prove that you have a place of your own (rented or self-owned), and you can support your dependent by presenting a reasonable amount of money in a bank account (not necessarily from the banks you owe money from), and proof you have a regular source of income. These things will make the application easy.

If I were you, I'd go to the banks concerned and explain your situation and come up with a repayment schedule that works. The repayments on a HK$55,000 loan over 5 years are not that high. In the long-run, it's much easier to go down that path that living on the edges of society and poncing money off people and credit card companies. Do you have a job?

Two seperate issues.
The immigration does not care if you owe money to the bank. Its not their problem and concern.
They would certainly want to know how you would be supporting your wife and living expenses.
As long as you are employed you would not have any problem in getting her visa.
