I have a guy who took us around in Guilin. His name is Steven - +86 15949378129

He is a local guy - english is good but not great. Anyway, he can also help arrange a van for the family as well as the boat ride to Yangshuo (which is a must but really expensive - seems there is no choice though - we double checked at the pier and it was the same price as Steven had quoted us).

Cheers

Eric

I just got back from 10 days in Yangshuo (and Guilin) with my 2 daughters...it was fantastic! We hired Sunny as our guide and she was just great. Instead of booking a pre-determined package, we just decided to wing it mainly and pick our activities as we went. Sunny had a ton of suggestions and was very flexible in accomodating us. She was very organzied and was able to take care of everything I asked. We ended up renting scooters almost every day, and going to different places to explore...they were an absolute blast. Sunny really became like part of the family by the end of the trip, and i think my two daughters will always remember her. I whole heartedly and without reservation, recommend Sunny to anyone traveling to the area...she was the best!!! We spent 4 days in Beijing as well, and although our guide there was good as well, Sunny was waaaaay better. Her phone number is + 86 13471397869. Email:huihui.sunny@live.cn. I just returned from Yangshuo and Guilin for a week of travel. Our travel guide was Lisa Li. She is based in Yangshuo but can organize activities in the Guilin/Longji/Yangshuo area. She was extremely well organized and thorough. We visited the Longji rice terraces, bicycled through many local villages, took a boat trip on the Li River and saw the Impression Liu San Jie. She can be contacted at lixifeng_lisa@yahoo.com.cn or +86 143 7139 7024. Lisa grew up in the area and knows many wonderful places to visit and activities to do. If you are planning a trip to this area, do yourself a favor and contact her for a great trip! She is also very fluent in English.

If anyone is interested, I did a trip review for Guilin / Yangshuo awhile back.

I thought it was perfectly acceptable to get around without a guide in Yangshou. In Guilin I hired a taxi / guide from our hotel for a few hundred RMB, but this was a few years ago
