Does anybody know why the schools are not taking the govt pollution advisory seriously? Maybe some are but our pre -school had a sports day this monring in Happy Valley, and they think thats OK....they cancelled it 2 weeks ago because of rain??????

Perhaps for the same reason that they don't take the government seriously just like the rest of us.
hypocrisy is appaling esp. on the subject of the pollution. Complete ineptitude despite the fact they could sort out the problem relatively easily.

Maybe the sports day went ahead because no person looked at the Air Pollution Index - neither school nor parent. Early this morning the API was still breathable. Mid morning it began its meteoric rise.
Our Air Pollution Index is well over 400. The scale only goes to 500. What happens next?

My kids primary had no outdoor play at snack or lunch today, and my sons football was cancelled and my other sons rugby match was called off although they still did training.

Well, I guess we'll never know how bad the pollution really got. It's currently reading 500 at many of the recording stations across HK and this is the maximum reading. Never seen anything like it in all my years in HK.
Very irresponsible of the schools to go ahead with sports days. The Environmental Protection Department issued a notice very early this morning, warning about the sandstorm from China... and the levels rose very rapidly from 6am.

more than 15 times the WHO recommended safety levels at about midnight, and still rising.
