It's true - the Ipad is here. Anyone know where I can get a 3G version today on the island side. Want to surprise my hubby.

It's out in the US, not HK. Any for sale here are most likely resales from ppl trying to make a quick buck. There are a few for sale in the clasifieds. Somewhat inflated prices there though.
Apple announced that it will release internationally in stages. It's opening up iPad into 10 new markets in about a month (HK is not one of these - Singapore will be the closest to us here), then a stepped roll out after that to other markets (that'll be us).
Jobs' stated that they were having trouble manufacturing enough to meet US demand, so I doubt Apple will want to divert too many unit to OS markets in a hurry.

Hi,
I was Wanchai MTR station, at the Johnston Road exit, and I saw the 16gig version available. Don't know anything about whether it's 3G. I think the shop keeper said it cost $6800 and of course there's no official warranty, probably cos it's a parallel import.
If you are at the MTR Johnston road exit, facing the road, you will see some little shops on the right hand side - on the corner of O'Brien Road and Johnston Road.

Definitely not the 3G version since that one will not be released anywhere for several weeks.
The shops you are describing are actually just one shop with two bays. Incidentally a decent place to get phone service done.
As mentioned by Todge all parallel imports at this stage.

Yes, that's the shop!
And I personally wouldn't buy a software-related product as a parallel import, because if you do, you can't go online and download any software updates. Very inconvenient.

You could actually, but you would probably need a US iTunes account, meaning you need a US credit card.

Actually, I thought it was to do with the fact that you would not be able to register the product?
In fact, we have access to US iTunes... I almost bought my iphone as a parallel import but the shop guy told me not to go online to download any updates as it would be recognised as an unregistered product. And the shop guaranteed the phone themselves.
It sux that we can't get iTunes in HK! I owe my brother so much money on his credit card! hahahah

Intersting info eddie33.
If you have a US credit card, you must have a US address. So registration is possible on the US store.
"It sux that we can't get iTunes in HK! "
Huh? Of course you can.

My husband plans to buy an ipad from a US Apple store for personal use, does he need to get anything else to go with it? Any advice?
Thanks.

We buy/rent movies on iTunes and songs but we have to use our brother's credit card.
I thought the only other way to do this was to buy gift certificates on ebay from other people who purchases these certs with their US credit cards.
I wasn't talking about simply being able to access iTunes.

I saw plenty of iPads in the Wan Chai Computer Center today. 5500 for a 16 gig.
