Xbox Live: internet issue

I am having no luck connecting to Xbox Live. Does the following situation look familiar to you, or easy to solve? Any ideas would be appreciated.

PROBLEM: Cannot connect to internet/Xbox Live with Xbox 360. Trying dedicated connection (ethernet cable right into Xbox).

BACKGROUND: Xbox Live worked when Xbox was at a different home but with same internet provider (i-Cable).

SET-UP: Coaxial cable runs from wall to cable splitter, then into both router and modem. Ethernet cable running from modem to laptop accesses internet (so everything works), but running from modem to Xbox does nothing.

TECHNICAL: (1) Inputted i-Cable username and password into network settings ("username"@i-cable.com). (2) Connecting from modem to Xbox = Xbox shows no connection to network or internet. (3) Moving ethernet cable to router and connecting from router to Xbox = Xbox shows connection to network but not internet. (4) Tried setting DNS settings from i-Cable info but no effect.

Well, what is wrong?

Do I directly need to link the router (which will get a "network connection" with Xbox) to the modem? (I guess they are only connected via coaxial with the splitter right now.) There are no obvious input slots remaining on the router or modem except that both have a USB slot, so the only way I see this is with a cable that has a USB connection on both ends.

Thanks kindly.

Not sure about iCable but I assume it may be the same think as Now Broadband.

Basically with Now Broadband your plan allows you to have 1 connection at any time to the internet.

So when your computer is connected to the internet via the modem your xbox cannot connect because your login is already in use. So you have to do either of the following (or at least that's what I had to do):

1) disconnect your PC before you connect your xbox. In this case you will prob need to enter your PPPoE details into the right area on your 360 setup.

2) and probably the easiest setup is to set up your router with the login details to your broadband. Connect the router to your modem. Then any object you connect to the router should have internet connection.

To connect the router to your modem you would just connect a lan cable from one of the slots on your modem to the in slot on your router (if that makes sense - you'll see 1 slot seperate to the other 4 or however many slots you have).

I have done 2 as basically you can use your laptop same time as your 360... or if you have wireless on the router you can use the wireless and the 360 and laptop all at the same time with no issues.

You may still have NAT issues (which limits the online connection to other gamers and servers) but you can fix that with port forwarding. I can try to help you with that later once you sort out your connection.
