Dehumidifier - worth the purchase?

This moisture in HK is starting to get to me a bit. Thank goodness for things drying off a bit this afternoon. But with washing not drying, mould spreading and gloomy bathrooms...ahhh. I was also wondering if the large amount of infected scratches we all get is to do with the moisture level in the hous.

Do de-humidifiers work? For my 700feet home will I need just one? WHich brands?

Some advice would be wonderful people./

ALso how is everyone else getting rid of mould?

Oh my god, NO ONE can survive without a dehumidifer in HK.

They work wonderfully. Of course, your air conditioner can do the same job but at a much higher cost.

- Make sure your windows are closed when you use one, otherwise your poor machine will be trying to dehumidify the entire city. This includes bathroom and kitchen vents.

- Buy one with a handle and wheels, because you'll probably want to move it around the flat.

- I think one should be sufficient for your 700sf flat, initially.

- Get one with a laundry function, so you can dry your clothes.

- Get one with fairly decent sized capacity - ie. big water tank.

- From memory, I have a mitsubishi that I'm very happy with, and it shows the percentage moisture in the air as well.

- dehumidifiers do raise the room temperature slightly but I've never noticed this much!

- one way to get rid of mould is to put a bit of bleach in water and wipe the walls clean.
