Real Butter

Would appreciate for someone to recommend a good brand for butter and where I could obtain it.

I had been using the Japanese "snow" soft butter for quite awhile as I found it easier to spread the "butter" onto my toast but I have a feeling it's not real butter. Am I correct?

Also are real butter supposed to be hard and not soft? Are there "soft" real butter?

Thank you in advance for all replies.

My husband and I would like to correct our eating habits by changing our diets to stay healthy.

Yes, butter is supposed to be hard. This is because butter contains a high content of saturated fats, which are solid at room temperature.

Thanks for all replies. I think I'll go and try the 'President' as it's recommended so highly by Yep.

Is Daisy brand any good? President is so expensive, is the difference in taste worth the extra dollars?

I used LURPAK a couple of years ago and found that I need to take it out from the fridge for awhile in order for the butter to get soften before I can spread it on my toast and I thought maybe doing this all the time will ruin the butter.

I've bought 'President' as Yep has so kindly suggested but have not start using it. I guess it needs to be soften like LURPAK'.

Why don't you just cut a slice of butter off the block and place this piece in a container to be left out of the fridge. The rest can be wrapped and stored in the fridge.

I've never thought of cutting a slice off the block to ease the problem. Maybe smaller pieces or slices would do the trick but I don't know if it's such a good idea to leave it out of the fridge given HK's humid weather.

Have try 'President' - it is good - Yep, thanks for the info. My helper said 'lurpak' which we had before seemed to be softer in touch and also taste as good. Well, guess I'll have both brands alternatively. BTW, lurpak is cheaper than president by a few dollars.

Thanks for all the advices.

My No 1 favourite is Harmonie-organic butter from the UK. But I have noticed their price surge from HK$26 (6 yrs ago) to the HK$50++ now. It tastes absolutely heavenly on toasts but I stop buying it because it is so pricey. For baking I use other cheaper brands.

The Japanese ones have margarine mixed in it=Trans Fats!
