Heat rash and growbags

ORIGINAL POST

my baby got some heat rashes when she was born in jan but hasn't much since until last night

i used a grobag last night and where she was a little sweaty from the humidity around her head/hair and crying as she woke herself from her sleep, this morning she had a heat rash (what i think is a heat rash) on her neck, a little of her chest at the top, back of ears, tiny bit in other places but also on her legs it doesn't look like heat rash it looks like eczema

also this time she had a little on her eyes and which made them look a little puffy bless her

also the little cracks (baby fat folds) on the back of her legs, creases of the elbows also look a little red

my questions are.....

what can i put on her to reduce the red in the cracks, sudo cream/vaseline??

after her bath the other night i put on baby lotion, is it too strong and made the dryness worse, the following night i put on a little baby oil

should i use a grobag here in HK because of the humidity?

she needs some sort of blanket but it gets so hot here

any help/wisdom welcome

We have been using grobags since my daugther was 3 months old. Because of the humidity and fluctuating temp - we have had the air con on for the past 2 weeks or so - set at 22 or 23 degrees and she is in a thinnest grobag (I think its the 0.5 tog). Which grobag is your baby using?

i wasn't sure about having the air con at night.......

i think best to use a 0.5 or 1 tog, mine doesn't say in the inside so is possibly slightly heavier tog so won't be using it again

Do turn the aircon on. Alternatively the ceiling fan if you have one. Kids (and adults for that matter) sleep much better when it is cool.

Was the baby lotion one you usually use? My kids have allergic reaction - looks like heat rash to one very common baby lotion.

We are in Singapore and use 0.5 grobag as in the middle of the night it feels colder and we use the air con.

it was just the normal johnstons baby lotion as she has dry patches and thought it might help, the rash had gone the next day so think it was only the grobag was too warm

As cara says.

Hands don't need to be warm. In fact if they are warm baby is too warm. The important thing is that the core is warm.

my pead. suggested using calamine lotion on the affected areas until it gets better.

if it is dry, she also suggested i use physiogel instead of johnsons since she says it has a lot of perfume and it's not suitable when she's rashing.
