Getting a China Travel Document

ORIGINAL POST

Hi,

My mum went to the China Travel Service to get the travel ID card so she can have visa-free entry to China (wui heung jing... it's called in Chinese).

She's born in HK, has three-stars ID card, but no SAR passport.

According to CTS, people over 18 require their ID card, and a document proving their Chinese nationality.

I suppose I could apply for an SAR passport for her, but can anyone confirm: would the HK Re-Entry Permit also fulfill the requirement so she can get the wui heung jing?

I guess laws have changed because when I got mine, I just produced my 3-stars ID card and I'm not even born in HK, nor have a local passport...

Of course she's Chinese. You cannot get three stars on your ID card unless you are Chinese! That's why, previously, it was simply enough just to produce your ID card.

Strange she cannot get one with a 3 star ID card. Just get the SAR passport. Very cheap and quick.

Yes the rules changed a while back and now people need an HKSAR passport for application for the home return permit. There was a great article elsewhere about this but cannot link here.

Dipper, my mum went to CTS and they told her to get the SAR passport, or something else - which she couldn't understand what they were talking about. I guessed it might be the Re-entry permit but I thought I would check the forum because getting information out of CTS is not easy, unless she goes up again and lines up to ask.

Yes, the SAR passport is very cheap, huh!
