my Chinese colleague ,Aussie passport, has received a letter from HSBC and has checked other info couched in vague circular terms regarding possible changes to tax for expats from Oz living in HK re divulging OS income...sounds omious for us all -we have had one scare from Wayne Swan last year - is anything seriously in the offing designed to make us pay tax on overseas earnings like the poor Yanks?

So long as you remain a non-resident Australian taxpayer, you will not pay tax on money earned outside of Australia. Any income earned in Australia is taxed, regardless of where you reside. To be a non-resident for tax purposes, you need to be outside Australia for more than 6 months in a year.
