Do you check 'Use By' Date?

How many of us actually check the 'Use by' or 'Expiry' Date of the products we buy from super markets? Well..we all should & here is why..


I recently ordered some items for home delivery, online from a famous supermarket but I was shocked to find one of the items had already expired 2 months back!! Luckily I did check otherwise my kids could have fallen very sick consuming this product.


Just serves as a reminder that we should always make it a habit to check each & every item & not depend & trust supermarkets to do their bit in ensuring that expired products are disposed off & not on the shelves for people to purchase.


Anyone else have a similar experience?

Yes definately check the expiry/use-by date and alos check asthey bar code the item as I have frequently found that the advertised price and the bar-code are different especially new things on special offers.

Like you said you dont mind a few days past the date but would you accept 2 months past the expiry date? That too for a perishable product that needs refrigeration?


I contacted the food & environmental hygiene department & they told me that its not acceptable under the law & that if convicted the supermarket could face a heavy penalty in court.
