Old photos

I would like to scan some very old photos (without negatives) and store them into my computer. However, these photos are either very grainy or not very sharp. I have tried to scan them using my home scanner and the result is rather bad. Any recommendation as to where I can go or what I should do ?

This job really requires both professional equipment and expert know-how on the processing side. I'd try the shops on Stanley Street.

@axptguy38, any recommendation as to which shop at Stanley Street? Do you know if it is an expensive exercise?

I like Mirama Camera on #25 but I don't know if they do this kind of work. There are some shops on the even number side that seem a bit more specialized in printing and image processing. Don't know about price.

I'm afraid scanning a picture is not going to get you very good quality picture. That said you're probably better off going to a computer centre, get a flatbed scan done, and then go home and play around with it in Photoshop. If you are not inclined to do that then try one of the professional picture places - John Leung Sudios - Upper Ground Floor, Block B, Kwong Sang Hong Building 6 Heard St, Wan Chai - 2573-0730

In Central, try Everbest on Stanley Street. I am not sure they offer this service but their developing is pretty good and cheap. The ColorSix on Stanley Street is used by lots of pros but they are somewhat more expensive. PhotoScientific on Stanley Street is another one that can do this.
