I'm confused about the transfer, licensing, insurance, inspection, registration process for buying a used car in HK and how long it takes. Private seller to private buyer (I'm the buyer). Can you explain it to me step by step?

1. Get the paper, detail from the seller,
2. Get an insurance, min 3rd party.
3. Go with the insurance, owner to the Motor Vehicle Department.
4. Pay and transfer the ownership to yourself.
5. Take the car and ride of to the smogset.

If you're worried about the condition that the car in is, then you could also suggest to the current owner if you drive together to a car garage and get them to check it over for you.
