I'm thinking of going to North Vietnam during end of July, August. Am thinking of Hanoi, Sapa, Halong Bay type of trip.

I know it's rainy season, but how bad does it get? Is it still worth going?

Any info is appreciated. Alternative suggestions also welcome.

Thanks

I was in Hanoi and did the boat trip in Halong Bay last June, bloody too hot and part of me was melted, couldn't stand it even I am used to HK's weather. Vietname is a beautiful country in general, but not much English there.

Read books for major attractions in Hanoi, everything is around the lake but be careful with being crazily ripped off, especially with the taxi meter, and of course shopping. And my mobile phone got stolen.

What I liked most was the busy traffic, that was the place where I didn't need to watch out carefully and waited for the cars to stop (because it never will) before crossing the road. Just take a bold step forward and you'll never get hit!

July August is the rainy season in the north of Vietnam, however, it's just a quick heavy rain for half an hour in the afternoon or evening to cool down the weather only and it will not affect to your travel. Sapa is a nice town but quite touristic. Ha Long Bay is very nice and you can do just a day trip or stay overnight on a cruise/junk.
