Urgent bone marrow search - 4 year old boy Devan

With so many of mixed race in Hong Kong, surely we may have the answer?

Four-year-old Devan Tatlow is undergoing chemotherapy for leukaemia at a hospital in Washington but doctors say he needs help from outside of the United States.

His father Dermot has European ancestry and his mother is part-Indian - but only 3% of millions of registered bone marrow donors in the US are of mixed race.

Doctors say the chance of finding a perfect match is about one in 200,000 and the family is making a global appeal to test for compatibility

Devan's aunt happens to be one of my neighbors here in Beijing -- she says that it looks like they are going to get a cord blood match [5/6 points match], but they are still encouraging people to get tested as it is extremely hard to find donor matches for mixed race people because the potential donor pool is quite small.

Thanks for posting this - it's painless and easy to be tested.
