We are a HK Island western family seeking a primary school that can offer a serious Mandarin program, is not hard-core Chinese rote learning, and is pipelined for IB certification. CIS not an option (did not get in) so friends recently suggested checking out Yew Chung in Kowloon Tong. Looks interresting per the website. We have a tour later in the summer.
Would love to hear from anyone who has had experiences with this primary school (parent, teachers, etc). Also looking at ISF....maybe SIS, maybe Kiangsu's International track....
Thanks!

Check out Kingston International in Kowloon Tong as well...everything you're looking for and small class sizes as well. What about Victoria Shanghai in Aberdeen? Closer to you and fully PYP/MYP/IB bilingual program in a brand new campus...

I met two Aussie girls who had been there for a year, and their Mandarin was excellent, though I have no idea if that was the result of rote learning etc. ISF is pretty impressive, though they stress that you should be in it for the long haul, they are a local bilingual school, NOT an international school catering for people who will be gone in a couple of years.

Yep, we are aware of ISF and are looking into it. What I'm aware of (I have been to the campus before for a tour) is that they have immense development plans since the facility is so new and the financial burden for this will be felt by parents now, in these few years. That, coupled with lack of IB certification yet, puts it a tad lower on the list.
Also looking at Victoria Shanghai in Aberdeen and SIS.
Thanks!!
