Air travel with a 6 month baby

Does anyone have good advice for how to handle a long haul flight 12 hours with a 6 month baby? What are the tricks for a painless...well easier flight.

Is the ear pressure something to be worried about?

Make sure you make friends with the cabin crew! Never found ear pressure to be a problem, but always had milk (breast or bottle) at the ready for something to suck on.

We just did 12 hours with a 3 month old. In addition to making friends with the cabin crew and having something to suck on, I would recommend the following:

1. Schedule your flight as best you can according to your child's sleep cycles

2. Take enough diapers and a change of clothes for the baby

3. Take infant tylenol (something to take the edge off if your baby has ear pressure or other problems)

4. Take enough things to distract your baby

5. Appear to do your best to comfort your baby if he/she cries. Other passengers are much more forgiving if you appear to be doing your best, regardless if it works.

It's impossible to know how your child will travel. 6 months is a good age, but realize it's a crapshoot and do your best.

Good luck and let us know how it turns out.
