Slow starter

My daughter is 6 and a half and is studying in P2. She has always been a late starter in reading and maths. It really hurts seeing her struggling just doing a simple substraction (e.g. 9 take away 6 equals ?). Although I have received no pressure from the school, I am concerned as other kids of the same class are learning multiplication and division at the moment and am wondering how she can catch up with them. I had talked to the class teacher but was told that the day would come. I am trying my best to help her at home, but still I am very anxious. Are there any other parents here having the same problem or those who had overcome similar problem...are welcome to comment. Many thanks.

Hi Clara, tks for your kind words. My daughter was borned in Dec 03 so she is in fact 6 and a half. She is in ESF which accepts children by birth year so she is always the younger group in class. I will try to relax but it is easier than done (^-^).

Are the kids learning multiplication and division in school? I don't remember that from P2- mine's in P4 in the ESF & they didn't even do much in year 3. I've actually found the ESF a bit slow on things like times tables. I think if there was a problem, the school would tell you. She sounds pretty average to me. See what the year end report says & if you're worried, go talk to the school.
