Student Visa for a Domestic Helper

A friend of mine is a DH for a foreign family. She is very bright and has sat successfully for her G.S.E. A/Levels in her home country.

Her employer agreed that she can apply for a Undergraduate Degree at a Hong Kong University. They would cover all fees and expenses relating to her studies. They would like to give her a chance for a better future.

If she would be offered a space at the University, is it possible to change her domestic helper visa into a student visa?

Thanks!

I don't think it is possible - but I could be wrong. I think it's a bit of a horse & cart (or chicken & egg) situation with the university not offering a place to anyone on a FDH visa, and someone on a FDH visa not being able to change to another visa type (other than Dependant Visa in the case of marriage etc). I think for it to work she would need to resign and return to her home country and apply from there. But I think it will be very, very difficult. However, I am not the expert. You could ask the university or Immigration direct for a more definitive answer.
