Insuring laptops

ORIGINAL POST

Hi - I'm not really sure where to post this. Two of my children are getting laptops for school, and I want to insure them against loss or breakage while not in our apartment. HSBC told me they only insure property while it's in your apartment. Can anyone recommend how I might insure the laptops no matter where they are?

Thanks

What kind of Laptops are they ? If Macs then you can purchase an AppleCare plN.

Thanks for that. I looked it up and Applecare, and unfortunately, the policy terms and conditions exclude accidental damage.

Sorry about the typo above - I keep clicking 'edit' to fix it, but nothing happens! It should read:

I looked it up and with Applecare, unfortunately, the policy terms and conditions exclude accidental damage.

I guess your kids are at an ESF school and the purchase of Macbooks are therefore a pre-requisite. If not then I would strongly recommend buying them a 2,000 buck Netbook. Lot cheaper to replace than a 9,000 buck Mac.

Thanks everyone. The Macbook Pros are already a done deal. The kids have a fair bit of other technology that they're very responsible with. I guess all I can do is get them some good cases - perhaps I'll duct tape a few inches of foam around the blasted things. With ventilation holes, obviously... Or tape on some airbags... Maybe bubble wrap could do the trick...

Super - I'll look that up. We bank with HSBC and I can't remember much about why we rejected the contents insurance but I know it was terrible. I'll look up MSIG. Thanks.
