We live in Palm springs and our new neighbor is conducting major renovation. They are, I think working within the allowable times and they are not working on Sundays and Holidays. The point is, they are doing major interior demolition work using jack hammers. This is going on all the time! The noise is gut wrenching, painful. Its absolutely impossible to hear the phone ring let alone have a telephone conversation. I work at home preparing intellectual material and provide advice over the phone. It's impossible to work. Certainly there must be a limit on the amount of noise they make, the decibel level they reach. It can't be open ended? Does anyone know? Appreciate any information. I'm at my wits end! Arrrggghhh.

First thing you should do is talk to your neighbour and/or your estate manager to explain that you work from home (which they probably don't know).
If you don't think their 'solution' is reasonable you can complain to the EPD complaint hotline at 2838 3111 and/or your local police station. There is an actual division of responsibilities between the police and EPD but you can try both of them anyway.
Because there's no way they can renovate without causing noise you may just have to temporarily relocate to your nearby coffee shop to escape the noise.
If you want to look up the regulations it's the Hong Kong Noise Control Ordinance.

Thank you very much for your helpful information. The truth is, not only is the noise stressful, but the tremblers caused by their heavy equipment are bone rattling. You can feel it from head to toe. My house shakes everytime they fire up that jack hammer. Anyway, I will look up the regulations. Hope we'll get some sympathetic response from them! Thanks again!
