Hi all,

Does anyone know whether we can take and install HK split A/Cs and HK ceiling fans in Aust? We have some that are quite new and it would be a shame to have to sell and start over when we arrive.

Also, do HK TVs work in Aust?

Many thanks.

Most flat TVs from the last few years will work worldwide. If you post the model here I can probably look it up.

Yes you can take the fans down, we did. HK TV will work in Aust. (Japan and the US are different). Not sure about A/C but I can't see why it wouldn't work down there?

Thanks for the reponses. My concern with the A/cs was whether an installer in Aust will be happy to instal given the A/cs probably have no specific Australian Standards accreditation. Also, given Aust customs approach to even a speck of dirt on a set of golf clubs going back into Oz, whether the A/cs would have to be completely spotless, which is probably all too hard

Yes, Japanese and US broadcast standards are different, but most modern TVs are multi-standard. On an old CRT (box TV) the physical design of the tube had to be different for different standards. On flat TVs the panel is the same all over. The electronics simply convert the signal on the fly. It is cheaper for manufacturers to make one worldwide model. Most modern TVs are even worldwide voltage, accepting 100-240 volts without any switches or anything. You can check this by looking at the electrical label on the back. All you might need is a plug adapter or a new cable.

I bought a couple of new aircons for one of our rentals in Sydney. It cost us more to install them than the cost of the units. I didn't think they were too expensive to purchase in Aus.

Cost of moving the units to Aus vs cost of purchasing new (with Aus standards) must be considered.

Thanks Bob. Suspect you are probably right - easier to do it all back in Aust. Maybe what i should do in view of your experience is to leave the A/cs here but take the installer! Could get a nice little arbitrage business going.
