Getting to the hospital

Hi,

I was wondering how the ladies in DB make it to the hospitals when in labor.

If you can share your experience, that would be very helpful.

Also, will the car hire take you all the way to the city? How can I contact them and how fast can they come to where I live?

I'm new in DB and newly pregnant and so we are trying to figure out how people give birth while living in DB. I did find some threads but wanted further information.

Thank you!

Hi Kim,

I am too old to have children, mine are grown up with grandchildren, however, I should think you best bet is to ask at which ever hospital you have your ante natal care, at what stage of labour they would expect you to come into hospital.

ie How far between contactions, and it would depend on whether it is your first baby, or not, because if it is your 2nd or more labour then it could be a little quicker.

As you live in Db, you have to take into account how long it would take you to get to the hospital where you are booked for the birth.

The grey hire car ( which you can get to the airport) will not necessarly be avaiable at short notice, as it has to be pre booked usually a few days in advance.

We are hopefully getting a Taxi service within a few months, but it will only be allowed to where the new Hotel at North plaza is, that option would be better if the taxis arrived before your baby is due, but you know what HKR are like, nobody knows when they will start this service.

If in early labour, I should think the best way to get to Hospital is bus to Tung Chung, then take one of the red taxi's near the MTr station to the hospital.

Obviously if labour progresses quicker than you thought, or if there is any problems you could call an ambulance, as there is an ambulance station in DB.

Do you use the DB forum www.discoverybayforum.com it is probably more widely used by dbr"s and you could ask other Mum to be advice on there, Good luck!

And PS, I haven't heard of any babies being born on the ferry, buses, taxis or MTR since I have lived here, so don't worry.
