Good Phone Plan?

Hi - iam currently with Hutchison 3G plan which i subscribed to with a new iPhone.


My roaming charges are killing me / even though i try to switch off.


I heard that smart tone has a good plan - can anyone else recommend this - or any other plan?

Even you switched off and they still charge you? That's worrying as I've just signed up an iphone with 3G. I thought if my roaming is off, they won't charge you anything? I will be in the UK for a month. Pls advise :)

Firstly what do you mean by roaming charges are killing you? Are you talking about data or voice?


If data then it is possible to turn off all data when roaming with iPhone. If you are talking about calls when then that is an issue with all operators and is usually solved with using a local SIM from whichever country you are in.


I use my iPhone in China just for the odd call in, as well as another phone for business. I also have a local China SIM card I use for everything within China - calls, SMS, etc. I also have SIMs for other territories if required.


So just to be clear, if you have data roaming turned off then you will not be charged, i fact you will not be able to use data while roaming unless you turn it on. If you do want data roaming then best to use 3 or equivalent which caps you a daily fee for data use with certain other operators.
