My gal and I are planning on Koh Samed in early August. I have tried forums here but Ed has to help me. I get error messages.
Its a small island and quiet which is what we want. We want to swim, relax, eat, maybe fish.
When staying at one hotel can we venture to other beaches? Also what are the options as far as food is concerned? Only hotel food?
Take only Thai Bhat or US dollars too?
We are thinking 5 days 4 nights but I wonder is ther enough to do? We dont care about shopping. Just look around and be on the beach.

I used to go to Koh Samet quite often but it was a few years ago. It is surprisingly easy to get to - we used to fly to BKK then get a cab to Rayong and jump on the ferry. It was always very quiet except around Thai holidays as it was a favourite destination for people living in BKK. It certainly looks more developed then when I was last there but check out http://www.kosamet.net/ The island is small with very little going on - days lazing on the beach and no nightlife. Personally 5 days would be a little long but if you enjoy vegging out then you'll love it.

Thank you for your reply. getting away from people is what I want.
Easter I took off to Ho Chi Mihn by myself and had adventures looking around. It was great but since then I have had a fever for a nice quiet beach.
We booked hotel on north of island which is supposed to be closer to some restuarants and what there is of a town. Quite is what I want. I hope to be able to walk or jog around the island, swim, try to go fishing, snorkeling.
This is my first trip to Thailand and want to know if I just take Thai Bhat to Koh Samed or should take along US dollars?

It's best to take thai baht and most hotels will take credit cards.
