anyone knows how a 3D tv work? like what's the size of such tv so as to make the effect more significant? and do u need to wear 3d glasses at home to watch 3D?
and people buying 3d tv just use them for films.. so can 3d tv be used for watching normal tv programs (as they're 2d)~? stupid questions maybe but i'm a tech idiot~

I'm not really an expert but as I understand it most current sets operate with the aid of LCD "shutter glasses" that you wear. These glasses incorporate electronic shutters that show the individual eyes different images by flickering very rapidly in synchrony with the TV.
3D sets work just fine with 2D signals (and you can skip the glasses). The panel itself is the same as any other LCD/LED paned (except for the high refresh rate requirement). The difference lies in the signal processing driving the image.
Systems without glasses exist and this is of course the final goal. It should be noted that there is currently not much standardization in the industry. For example when a 3D episode of a TV show airs, typically it's a question of "old school" green and red glasses instead of shutter glasses.
Bottom line, I would hold off until we see a clear direction.
As with any TV, bigger is probably better. Compare the size of a movie theatre screen relative to viewing distance with the size of a television. A 42 inch screen should be viewed at 8-10 feet (some would say 6-7) or so to get somewhere close to a movie theatre experience. That's much closer than most people have their TVs.

Ok so I went and checked out some 3D TVs at Fortress.
- 2D is just like normal 2D.
- For 3D you use "shutter glasses". They are very light. I could hardly feel them. The quality was at least as good as at the movies. Very clear.
- They had a Samsung 55 inch LED on special for 43k including two pairs of glasses. That's a good deal for a "normal" LED!

can u wear the shutter glasses over normal glasses?

There's a good question. There shouldn't be any technical limitation. It's all about fit. I guess you have to go to Fortress and check. Please report back. ;)

also, please note, the TVs are designed to play 3D content from blue-ray DVD most effectively - but many of them also have a software function that will give 3D effect to 2D content. there is very little if any 3D content broadcast and this would also be broadcast in a different digital signal in each country so would be (likely) useless if you moved away from HKG. i was not all that impressed with the quality. a nice gimmick to sell new TVs. as mentioned, i would wait.
