I was highly recommnded the La Mer cream and the serum by my friend.
it cost a bomb......! Is there any parallel product with same effect but slightly cheaper....?
I was wondering if anyone of you would like to share your opinion on it.
Other alarming thing was that sasa is selling these two products almost half the price where as if you buy the same product from La mer counters directly, they are pretty expensive..
I am totally confused.....
Help ladies....!

Sonia,
I've found that sometimes when I've bought skin care products at Sasa or Bonjour, even though they're cheaper, they've gone past their expiry date, so make sure you have a look on the box and see when it's due to expire. I've had a very expensive eye cream squirt liquid water instead of cream.
I haven't used La Mer but my sister-in-law has been using it for years and swears by it.
I've tried Strivectin which was quite expensive and thought whilst it was okay, it's not that much better than much cheaper creams. A lot of the price in the creams we use goes towards advertising budgets. Right now I'm using Boots Perfect & Protect which is a fraction of the price and feels just as good.
I think that the important thing one must do is to wear a sunscreen with whatever moisturiser you use, whether cheap or expensive.

Unfortunately you can't get it in HK any longer. I get it when I go to Bangkok, or if my friends are going and I've run out I'll ask them to get it. And of course anyone in the UK as well.

A few months ago I read a comprehensive report written by a well-reputed UK dermatologist on La Mer. He had the contents analysed in an independent lab and confirmed that there was nothing in the tub that warranted its hefty price tag. As per previous analyses, he recommended E45 and other cheap but effective skin creams for most women to see real benefits.
What I think we have to remember when 'beautiful people' bang on about expensive creams like La Mer etc. working so well for them is that they are most likely also having spa treatments, massages and all sorts of indulgences when using the creams. It is this total package that make them look and feel good and perhaps they give too much credit to a cream rather than their privileged lifestyle, when one considers the time and money they have to exercise, eat well and look after themselves properly. But I'd be willing to be a guinea pig!!

Hey, i've just tried a sample from Chanel gel cream. It's very good and better than la mer.

Chillifontain - I started using Chanel a few months ago and I really like it also. I realise that I am probably paying for advertising, but I enjoy using the product.
Having said that I bought a cheap cleanser one day from Mannings - think it is by LÓreal and it was fine.

Hi, I would say La Mer is good for winter more than summer as it is rather thick that is perfect to use in western countries while Hong Kong is rather humid in summer. Also, it is better to follow the instruction of the sale ladies on how to apply the cream (you have to spread the cream on your hand/fingers to warm it a bit and dab it on the face). I tried a La Mer cream long time ago and it works good. It is expensive but since only very little qty is needed, one bottle can be use for a long time compare to other high priced brands.
I agree that it is overpriced. I talked to a chemist recently who is a sale supplying cosmetic raw material. I cannot believe the material itself just occupied such a very tinny portion of the cream. Most of the cost goes to marketing for those brand names. The ending of our conversation is that... high priced cream might not equals to good quality. Low priced cream might not equals to bad quality. Most important is to choose one which is good for you own skin and within your budget.
I personally more keen on skin care with more natural substains. Sisley is good and I recently use a salon brand introduced by my friend which is organic and good too while not very expensive.

Hi Shoe Girl,
btw, E45 is a brand from England. It is a low priced skin care line avaialble and common in supermarket in UK. I once saw it avaialble in Manning but not sure if it is still available. The E45 cream is focus on moisturising as i remember.

Dear Smilemari,
