There's Delifrance, but they're not very impressive. Is there a really good French-style cafe/bakery (not a bistro) around, preferably on the Island?

Ah. Hadn't thought of that one. Thx. Anything at a less stratospheric price point? ;)

Thanks!

We found "Cafe Lavande" on Prince's Terrace. Very nice decor with relaxed outdoors part. No pastries but delicious cakes. A bit pricey too.

Saw an ad in hotlistings freebie yesterday for 'Monsieur Chatte' ('the one and only French gourmet shop in HK) at 121 Bonham Strand, Sheung Wan (Tel. 3105 8077) www.monsieurchatte.com.

Ad says it sells foie gras, cheese, wine, home made food, jam, saucisson, ham, confit de canard, pate, baguette, tea and biscuits, so more of a deli than a cafe/bakery but sounds like it might have decent French bread and other bits and pieces...

We have found a little french bakery called "Tufei Painpain" on 59 Staunton Street 1/F Central Hong Kong. Specialises in breads, tiny little shop - not a cafe but nice bread. www.tufeipainpain.com Ph 28583200

She does have limited stock but happily bakes to order.

Pain d'Pro, The Professional Bread, makes the best bread in Hong Kong. 47 Hung To Road, Kwun Tong. Delivers every Friday afternoon to Central. 3106 4255.

Once you eat the bread, you will be a believer.

. “All my colleagues who tried the bread LOVED the bread. The texture is amazingly moist and chewy. This is seriously the best bread many of us have had in HK.” Renowned U.S. Bank in Central
