Hello expats,


Are there any of you guys or girls in Kaifeng, that wish to give me some info on the city? Google is not producing the results I would like other than standard data on population number and other Statistical data. thanks folks

what kind of info. i have been to kaifeng for travels but i'm not staying there so i could only give you limited advice.

Limited Advice is a good as none. I would like to know of some good coffee shops to hang out in. Expat hangouts, not pubs. Western food;is there a Carrefour or other Western style Hyper Market there, ie Cash and Carry. Any decent Pizza places? I know it is not Shanghai which is why I am requesting details. I have a Chinese freind in Australia who says Kaifeng is boring, can someone counter that? Cheers folks.

I actually moved from New York City to Kaifeng last year and stayed there for few months( staying in a 5 stars hotel). Very dirty and poor city compared to other Chinese first tier and second tier city. The only thing I appreciated is their unique street food culture although I advise you to watch out for sanitary reason. I have also heard most of the historical sites are buried under the ground. You cannot imagine that it used to be the biggest city in the world in the 12th century.

Thanks NYCmanhattan. The best answer to date. No I am not gong to Kaifeng either. A Chinese aquaintance recommended not to go there he said it was terrible, even native Chinese know what is good and bad. He gave it the thumbs down.
