Hi I got my provisional drivers license last 2 mths ago. Now Im considering using my husband's car.
Is it possible to ask my husband's car insurance company to add my name to be insured and i'll just add up for any fees they required for beginners like me? Or do I really need to apply for myself's insurance and have my own car too to insured?
On this case, any ideas how much it will cost me for the car insurance since im a new driver with less experience? Thank You!

Hi Amber,
Yes, it's possible to ask your husband's car insurance company to add you as a driver or, depending on the policy, anyone he gives permission to drive it is covered.
You don't need your own insurance and you don't need your own car.
The price of the car insurance depends on what the car is, your age, driving experience, and any no claims discount (NCD) for years of not having made any claims.
Please note - if you drive under your husband's insurance and have an accident and make a claim, or have a claim made against you, it will affect his NCD.
Hope that helps

Thank u chris for this great info. I did try to asked the insurance company, but they wont let my name be added on my husband's car insurance. They told me, no problem I can use my husband's car even if my name is not mention on the insurance and if any accident happens, they'll fix it. (Hubby has a comprehensive insurance) Anyone has an idea if its really ok? Im not convince enough...
many thanks!

It's okay Amber. As I said in my previous post "depending on the policy, anyone he gives permission to drive it is covered." The insurance company has just told you it's okay, so it's fine for you to drive your husband's car.

If you have a provisional (learner's) licence you can only drive with a licenced instructor. It is not like the UK here where you can drive with an experience driver next to you. Probationary licence is different.
