I wonder if we will have to apply for special visa for our son, we have sent him an airticket to come over from UK for Christmas and New year-going back January so he won't be on his own.
We are British and have residency. Can anybody advise please. Thanks

Chaminda&Ayesha, it all depends on nationality. What is your parents' nationality?
Susie1, British citizens can stay up to 180 days without a visa. British Overseas Citizens, British Subjects, British Protected Persons and nationals of British Dependent Territories can stay up to 90 days.
In any case those coming will need a return ticket.

Well, all I can figure out is that Sri Lankans need a visa. But you already knew that...
I don't know how you would get a longer one than the standard length. They should ask when they apply. They should explain that they will not be working, just visiting family

Your parents need to apply for Hong Kong visa in the China Embassy/Consulate in Sri Lanka. Send them (your parents) a letter of support (it should state your particulars, name, HK ID No., address, etc.). If the visa is approved, the length of visa given is the amount of time your parents can stay in Hong Kong.

If you give HK immigration a call they can tell you - I believe it should be possible, as there have been quite a number of cases where Filipino nationalities have been able to have family visit through "sponsoring" their visit and they have attained longer than the normal 2 week visa. I know we looking into it for MIL but it was a few years ago now and can't honestly remember the full procedure, but we did end up down at immigration providing financial proof to show she would not be a burden on society. She was with us for a month and she would normally also only have been able to stay 2 weeks.
