Hi everyone, I'm planning to drop by Sai Kung for a day or two next week before I leave HK. Anybody got recommendations fro budget accommodation and things to do?
I'm very interested in Hoi Ha Wan, if anyone knows of any dive operators etc, do let me know too!

Maybe you could contact the Pro Dive shop - they can put you in touch with dive operators. There's also a group called Mandarin Divers.

No private vehicles can be taken into the country park (unless you live there and have a permit) so to get to Hoi Ha you need to take the mini bus from Sai Kung at the waterfront. It's outside Circle K and well signposted. Don't know if the starfish are there at present but it's really spectacular when they are.
At Sai Kung you can eat at Michellin one star - one row back from the waterfront is Loaf On in the old village. Also in the old village is the 92 year old tin smith who still works with original equipment - fascinating but don't take his photo or he'll get grumpy.
Go windsurfing or kayaking - walk north from the bus bay until you get to Eddies on the beach - he hires the equipment for $100 a day M-F.
The most convenient hotel to Sai Kung is Harbour Plaza in North Point. Catch the mtr then 101 mini bus from Hang Hau station. If you have a car there are hotels at Sha Tin.

hey thanks everyone!
ecareken/cara: do you think its safe to head out there without any accommodation arranged? I've called up the YHA, but seems like both Pek Sha O and Chek Keng's hostels are all fully booked.

i think this being the summer break for schools probably doesnt help things. oh wells, maybe i will just have to head back after a day out, or find a rock to sleep on. :P
