Been to Jordan a few Years ago, took Emirates from Dubai to Amman. Spent two nights there (more than enough) and then went to Petra where we spent three nights and one night in the desert at Wadi Rum (slept in Bedouine tent, we were the only tourists there, fantastic!) Then down to Aqaba for a night (waste of time) from there we took a taxi vie dead sea (for a quick swim) back to the Airport in Amman.
Loved the place and people. Let me know what you want to know an d I;ll try to help.

How do you go about getting visas for these places - checked Syria and was told I had to deal with their Beijing embassy... is that correct?

THANKS, VORTEX777. Exactly what we need to know - where not to waste time at. Were 3 nights enough for Petra, or can it be done in 2?
Ed: Travel agent says visas can be got on arrival in Amman/Damascus. The important thing is not to have any Israeli stamps in your passport.

2 nights should be ok, make sure you go to the highest point in Petra, can't remember what the place is called, just ask around for sunset. Awesome view of the desert, but allow enough time to walk back. If you plan to stay in any cheap hotel in Jordan, have a look at the rooms first!!!

Thanks again Vortex. We plan to do 2 nights in Petra and 1 at Wadi Rum (tho travel agent is advising against it in Nov, too cold, but what the hell). Do you remember which camp you stayed at in Wadi Rum?
