HP all in one printer problem

I have an HP Photosmart 2610 printer that is giving me an error message "remove and check cartridge on right."

I have replaced the cartridge, tried to clean the contacts, switched the machine on/off, unplugged cables etc. HP say that they no longer keep spare parts for this model so recommend buying a new one!

Does anyone have any ideas or know of somebody who may be able to help? I would really like to fix this printer as it has been trouble free for a few years. This really seems like a minor problem and not a major parts failure.

Thanks in advance.

Copied from a HP error site

"There is a long rigid metal 'spring' (or could be called a wire) that dangles in the middle of each compartment apparently meant to hold the cartridge up. The spring is held and supported by grooves and a tiny piece of typical low quality HP plastic on the right plastic wall of the compartment. If one of the tiny poor HP quality plastic pieces that holds the spring to the wall brakes off like mine did (which I found sitting at the bottom of the printer) then the wall will lose it's grip on the spring and will hang lower than it should, which may be causing the error. The trick is to simply put the the spring back to its proper position along the right wall somehow. I simply had to push the spring up a little back into the proper position, superglued it to the wall, let it sit a while, replaced the cartridges and it worked great! BUT, is seems there are others on this thread where the spring has caused damage to other parts of the printer, so becareful!"

Thanks Bob. I found the spring that is entirely separated from the machine. I will see if I can get it back into place.

FYI Green I spent a whole day on google, yahoo, hp's website. tech hotline and never came across the spring mentioned. I guess I need to get better at Googling!
