I've been asked to buy one as a joint gift for a friend. Its been suggested to buy the basic Citic one and you can buy the milk frother separately for $500 or I could just get the one combined which is think is around $3K.

I've not got one but would like input for anyone who has as to which one to buy. Its for home use.

There is no functional difference between them. The frother in the "combined" one is the same, it just has a neat slot to fit in beside the coffee maker so it all looks more like an integrated unit. So I guess it depends on what form factor you prefer.

BTW DeLonghi also makes a machine for Nespresso now. More advanced, or at least looks it. Saw it at Fortress. Very cool looking but need to see it in action before passing judgment.

Still very happy with our last gen machine, two years on.

Love Nespresso! IMHO as its a gift go for the new combined unit. Not only does it look fabulous but the frother is a newer version and much more slimline and you only need one plug. It also has some storage for coffee glasses. The machine itself is updated and slimline.

In regards to DeLonghi, it is exactly the same machine and it also uses the same components as Nespresso the only difference being the nozell. I prefer the Nespresso myslef. In the UK these machines are also made by Kenwood etc but they all use the same Nespresso components.

"you only need one plug"

Ah. There's the difference.

Not quite. The milk frother is completely different on the DeLonghi I saw.

Oh! It was certainly the same two weeks ago when I purchased mine and was making the decision as to which one to get. The milk frother is also the same on all the different UK makes as well. Either way there is almost zilch difference in both machines and the coffee tastes amazing and the milk frother makes the best froth! Still suggest the combined model as it looks fabulous!

Yeah this is a new DeLonghi machine. I just saw it at Fortress Hopewell Centre the other day. The old one does have the same nozzle.

I do agree that they all make good milk foam.

Wrong machine. The OP is refering to the Citiz range and in particular the Citiz & Milk C120RE. Milk frother quite different to the model in your photo.

Yes I know that. My point was that the DeLonghi machine I saw has a different frother from either the current Nespresso "standalone" one or the old all-in-one with a nozzle.

My friends and I have decided to go with the Citiz version with milk frother included since its a special gift. I rang them up in IFC and found you can get 10% discount if you pay by American Express and they will also deliver by making payment over the phone on an alternative number. It comes with 16 capsules of coffee and 2 different glasses. Thank you all for your advice. I shall investigate the other machines another time when perhaps I would like a coffee machine.

Sorry. My aim was not to confuse! I think the Citiz with frother is a great choice.

I went into IFC as we had trouble with the payment by phone which is directed through Singapore and making ourselves understood! They didnt even know about the offer of 10% AMEX discount either until a manager had to be asked. It seems Delonghi have taken over Nespresso and any new machines have Delonghi written on them now. The Citiz with frother is in red and the Delonghi is the same apart from the nozzle and part chrome top and comes in black. We decided to go for the red one and is allowed to change it within 7 days if she decides she prefer the black one. I even got a free coffee as he demonstrated the machine to me. Great coffee.

". It seems Delonghi have taken over Nespresso and any new machines have Delonghi written on them now."

Can't find info of this on Nespresso, Nestle or Delonghi websites. It seems more likely that Nespresso machines will just be sourced from Delonghi and others with explicit branding. Perhaps Delonghi has made the Nespresso branded ones all along. For that matter Miele also makes a Nespresso machine.

I guess it makes sense for Nespresso to focus on the coffee itself.
